IMEKO is a non-governmental federation of 40 Member Organizations individually concerned with various aspects of research, development and application of the science and technology of measurement.
Its fundamental objectives are the promotion of international interchange of scientific and technical information in the field of measurement and instrumentation and the enhancement of international co-operation among scientists and engineers from research and industry.
Founded in 1958, the Confederation has consultative status with UNESCO and UNIDO and is one of the five Sister Federations within Five International Associations Coordinating Committee (FIACC), further consisting of International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC); International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP); International Federation of Operational Research Societies (IFORS) and International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation (IMACS).
The fundamental objectives of the Confederation are the promotion of international interchange of scientific and technical information in the field of measurement and instrumentation and the enhancement of international co-operation among engineers and scientists from research and industry. These objectives are basically carried out already by 24 Technical Committees (TCs).
About TC16 - Measurement of Pressure and Vacuum
Pressure measurement and calibration are widely used in industry. One example is at the process industry, where all types of manometers and transmitters are found, to measure absolute, gauge and differential pressure. These devices are not only used for the measurement of pressure, but also to control the process.
Practice shows that there is an increasing need to carry out international work to homogenize criteria, procedures and uncertainty evaluation to facilitate technical information exchange; to develop projects among groups from different nations; and to support measurements and calibrations for mutual recognition between country's National Metrology Institutes or Accreditation Bodies.
This Technical Committee pursues this goal by the organization of different activities.
